EDM is mainly used to etch away excess metal by the phenomenon of electric corrosion when a pulsed spark discharge is generated between the tool and the workpiece (positive and negative electrodes) to achieve the dimensions, shape, and surface quality specified by the part's technical requirements. .
1. The die EDM processing method must meet three conditions:
1 must maintain a certain gap between the tool electrode and the workpiece surface, so in the EDM must have a tool electrode automatic feed and adjustment device;
2 Spark discharges must be instantaneous pulsed discharges. For this purpose, pulsed power must be used for EDM.
3 Spark discharge must be performed in a liquid medium with certain insulating properties.
2. Factors influencing the rate of erosion of EDM: electrical criteria, polarity effects, thermal constants of metal materials, working fluids, and chip removal conditions.
3. Factors influencing the accuracy of EDM machining: various errors of the machine tool, manufacturing precision of tool electrodes, positioning and installation errors of workpieces and electrodes, size and consistency of discharge gaps, loss of workpiece electrodes and processing stability.
4. Electrode material requirements for EDM: Low loss, stable processing, high productivity, good machining performance, and low price.
